In the late 19th century, most working people suffered long hours, low pay, and hazardous conditions at the hands of their employers. Despite these conditions, many refused to join labor unions that had been organized to light for better treatment of workers. They feared they would lose their jobs, as employers often found some reason to fire such "troublemakers." Imagine you're working in a cotton mill or a coal mine in the late 19th century.Your family needs your income to help put food on the table and keep the roof over your heads, but you work long hours in dangerous conditions. You work 14 hours a day, six days a week, and
have seen co-workers lose lives and limbs on the job.
What would you do if someone asked you to join a labor union to fight for better working conditions? Would you join, even if it meant you might lose your job? Or would you refuse to join, and accept your employers unreasonable demands?

ReplyDeleteIf someone asked me to join the labor union to fight for better working conditions I would not join.I do not want to lose my job since I still need to eat and survive through the harsh climates.Since I am poor I do not want that to happen. However,I will feel bad about not helping my people with their working conditions.
ReplyDeleteThat was the thought of many people of that day. No one wouldve blamed you for your thought. Who wiuldnt have been afraid of losing the only source of income they had.
ReplyDeleteIf someone ask me to join the labor union i would not join because i want to keep my job and use the money to feed my family no matter how dangerous it is. I rather have myself suffer instead of the whole family suffering with me.
ReplyDeleteIf someone ask me to join the labor union to fight for working conditions i would not join because i might get "Fired" at anytime. I would rather work and earn money for my family to survive.
ReplyDeleteIf someone ask me to join the labor union to fight for better working conditions i would join because if we get more people working in better conditions we can maybe grow our economy
ReplyDeleteI would join because it will help us have better working condition and less hours.
ReplyDeleteNice point Aaron why not join and see what happens
Deleteif i was asked to join labor union I wouldn't because I would lose my job and family is more important then me worrying about the conditions in the factory
ReplyDeleteIf someone asked me to join the union I would, even though I might lose my job but the people who lives after me would have a better life then I would. Also if I join it will benefit many people, more safer jobs and the payment is increased for each job. Also I will not accept my employers unreasonable demands for such dangerous work and unfair payment.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they should be convicted it's not like they set off the bombs, I think the governor did the right thing by pardoning those 3 men, he should have had all of them pardoned. I would have done the same thing the governor did even it it means my carrer would be ruined. I've never had to make a decision like that.
ReplyDeleteGreat reply though it was on the wrong oost
