"Give Me Your tired, Your Poor ... "

Millions of immigrants who passed through Ellis Island were welcomed by the sight of the Statue of Liberty on Bledsoe Island in New York Harbor. The base of the statue is inscribed with a poem written by American poet Emma Lazarus (1849-1887):
" ... Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Imagine you are an immigrant seeking freedom from war in Russia or hunger in Ireland. Write how you would feel seeing the Statue of Liberty after your long voyage across the Atlantic

You would have a better oppurtunity to be successful there then Russua or Ireland, you will start a new life, the statue would be welcoming us and will be happy to have us. - via ashley

  87. (Atifah Osrat 811) If I were an immigrant seeking freedom from a war in Russia, I would definitely feel mixed emotions. I would feel joy, relief, gratefulness, happy, emotional, and so much more. I would feel like this because I have endured so much just to get a better life in America, and seeing the symbol of freedom, liberty, peace, and safety, I would definitely feel overwhelmed. Especially since I have endured my long voyage across the Atlantic.

  91. (samiha akter 811) if i were an immigrant seeking freedom from a war in russia and i saw the statue of liberty i would just be thinking about freedom and i would ask myself what if i were in a postion of a person that actually has freedom. seeing the statue would make me feel like liberty is all i need for all my wishes to come true and i would just wanna be free from the war and just explore how freedom feels like and want to enjoy life. the statue shows how life would feel with out worrying about anything else.the war would not even come to my head only getting freedom.
