The Indian Removal Act of 1830

President Andrew Jackson (1 767-1845) believed that the only Way to end the fighting between Whites and Native Americans Was to “remove” all Indians from lands east of the Mississippi. To this end, he helped pass the Indian Removal Act of 1830. This law evicted major Indian tribes from 1and east of the Mississippi and sent them to“Indian Territory,” in the West.To the Indians, who were reluctant to move, he said, “Young chiefs, forget the prejudices [attachment] you feel for the soil of your birth.”
Do you think the United States government had the right to tell Native Americans to move? Explain why or why not. With do you think of President Jackson's suggestion that Native Americans ignore their attachment to their homeland? How do you think you would have felt upon receiving such a request? What do you think you would have done?

  3. it was not right of the states to relocate a whole group of people to only benefit the states. its like the Indians were cattle and that states were herding them.

  8. I think its terrible thats the "white" are trying to remove the native americans. Its there home land they have no right to invade other people's land and take over it. I would reject the request and if they try to fight, then i fight. I either died free, or died trying to be free.

  10. I think the United States government did not have the right to tell Native Americans to move because the Native American's ancestors had lived on this land for years. Only making them devastated when learning that they were forced out of their land.

    1. Benjamin, I agree with your answer. I believe the us did not have the right because that is very unfair and they had no right to do that. The native american were living peacefully before the white men (americans) kicked them out.

  14. I think the united states government doesn't have the right to tell the Native Americans to move from their hometown. If I am the Native Americans I will oppose this idea and start a war with the U.S for our rights and freedom to live peacefully. I think the Native Americans would not affect the U.S government if they share the same land. I think president Jackson should treat Native Americans the same way as how he treat his own kind.

How do you think you would have felt upon receiving such a request? What do you think you would have done? Why should the Native Amercans ignore there attachment to there homeland. 16. i dont think the government has the right to tell the native americans to move from their homeland because they probably lived in that land for a very long time. They like how it is (everythings peaceful) and making them move all of a sudden. they might have felt really fustrated. i would try to stop or even declare war just to protect my homeland from being taken

  18. the US had no right to take over the Native American land. First of all, the Native Americans had been living there for a long time and had jobs and families there. The united states should have given the native Americans money for their land asked permission. President Andrew Jackson was a unfair guy. Even though he was the president he had no right to invade
other territories before asking. he probably said Young chiefs, forget the prejudices [attachment] you feel for the soil of your birth" this because they can leave without complaining. If i was an native american i would fight for my rights. i would also encourage my companions to let the Americans leave us alone.

  24. In my opinion, I don't think it was right for President Jackson to just "remove" Native Americans from their homeland without considering their attachment. It's really rude. I personally would've been angry and upset at such a request. I would try to protest and speak up for my family.

  32. I think it was unfair that the U.S kicked Native Americans. I mean it was their land in the first place before settlers started coming and starting colonies. U.S should be lucky that at least they shared there land. But there is no right to kick them out. If the U.S kicks them out where are they going to go?

  34. In my point of view United States Government did not have the right to tell Native Americans to move in another place. I am disagree because, it was their own land and own house which they get and build by doing many hard works. This is not the right justice to tell/force them to move from their own place.President Andrew Jackson's decision was unfair for Native Americans. I think president Jackson forced Native American to forget the prejudice (attachment) for their land and houses. But he didn't care about how much it will be hard for Native Americans. If I was a Native American in this situation I would break down but after thinking of my future I would fight back for the right justice even it's was 99.99% chance of death

  36. I think government didn't have the right to tell Native Americans to move, because Native Americans came to the land first, and when Americans began to living in the land,Native Americans did not reject, and if now government told them to move,it just show how government are been greedy and take advantage from the Native Americans. It is unfair that Jackson told Native American to ignored the feeling toward the place where they grow up.If I receiving such a request,I will feel angry and start a war.

  37. Generally, nobody have no right to kick out anybody from certain place that can benefit for themselves, especially in this case, the United States government absolutely had no right to relocate Native Americans who lived along the east side of Mississippi River to the west side of the river for their own good because they knew the land better than anybody else such as those "invaders"( You know what I mean) They knew where to find resources ( wood, water, etc) and food that could support their livelihood. They also knew when the season will changed. In addition, it's their homeland where posterity of Native Americans had been raised up, which build up a strong emotional connection to the land. I think President Andrew Jackson's suggestion that Native Americans should ignore their attachment to their homeland is unacceptable because he didn't place his position into their shoes to see how he would feel if he's one of Native Americans who was been forced out from the land. He didn't realize how many difficulties did Native Americans and the diligence efforts behind the what-it-look-like nowadays. He only cared about how could he benefited them but not the effect of this race " prejudice attachment". If I'm one of Native Americans who encounter the same situation as them, I would give speeches in the North and let them hear how miserable experiences we have been went through. Let them offer us the weapons that can help us fight for our natural right while they can also protest against the government and urging the government to stop the action.

  38. I think the United States government Doesn't have the right to tell Native Americans to move because Native Americans are the founder of the lands and nobody ever had the right to right to do so. I disagree with President Jackson's suggestion that Native Americans ignore their attachment to their homeland that mean to move to the west and forget about their old home and live in the new one, it is not fair to take a advantage to a friendly people like that. If I have upon receiving such a request I will be so angry that I will be declaring enemy with the country. If that really happened I will gather all the Native Americans as I can and prepare for war!

What I think of President Jackson's suggestion that the Native Americans ignore their attachment to their homeland is, I agree and disagree with him. I agree with President Jackson's actions because it would resolve the conflict between the Americans and the Native Americans. But at the same time I disagree with President Jackson's actions because you cannot force people out of their territory. I would have felt offended upon receiving such a request, because, who are you to tell me that I have to moved from my native land. What I think I would have done was to go in their territory with my people and blow up their buildings and houses and divert their weapons away from them to create even more tensions to let President Jackson know what's coming to him and that they have crossed the line.
